The overperforming entry-level wine from Montevertine is a blend of 90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo and 5% Colorino. The 2023 Pian del Ciampolo is a pretty wine with a vinous character and aromas of wild cherry and a hint of white pepper or something spicy like dried ginger. I also get floral notes with iris and violet. It shows lively qualities that add vibrancy and energy. It's very primary in character but not too ripe. It spreads over the palate in a subtle, silky manner. Winemaking is straightforward, with cement for fermentation and botte for aging. 93 RP
